Essentially, this contact had a detrimental affect on the native peoples, as it resulted in a loss of their lands, languages, and many lives. This is due to the fact they were not properly equipped to defend themselves against the Europeans new weapons or diseases.

The European arrivals were also affected by the indigenous peoples. They were introduced to the unique traditions of the native peoples of the Americas, including their intricate mythology, traditions, and agricultural techniques. Traditions including the weaving of colorful tapestries and the creation of resilient leather clothing such as moccasins.
