Start by getting a degree in college so you can get a chance to make it

To start a job productively one needs to know & understand the job's role & expectations, requirements & knowledge needed to complete the job.

For example:
A sales person (car sales) needs to know what products are sold, which ones are best, which ones customers like. He needs to know about the company he works for; their goals, motto, vision. He must also know he's going to be interacting with people so he better have a good disposition, respectful, and listen.
He might have to stand ALOT. So sore backs & feet don't help much. He might need to use math to calculate prices, sales, etc.

While a college degree or technical training is good for the long term job in the future but many people work other jobs too. Most companies provide an orientation that covers many aspects of the work requirements so you can be productive on the job. Your productivity builds their bottom line which funds your paycheck.
