Among the Lokota people, objects themselves aren't usually assigned a gender, but the gender of the speaker changes the way words are used. In a movie called Dances with Wolves, male characters who played members of the Lakota tribe spoke the female version of the language because the film only utilized a Lakota woman when writing the script and filming the movie. Members of the Lakota tribe found the movie to be rediculous. A Nigerian community, speakers of a language called Ubang, also has a similar way of using language. While referring to a yam, a man would say "irui" and a woman would say "itong." When refering to a goat, a an would say "ibue" and a woman would say "obi."
