John Locke was one of the enlightenment philosophers that had ideas that the American colonists used as a basis for revolution. Locke believed that if the government should fail to protect the rights, life, liberty, and property, its citizens would have the right to overthrow that government. This deeply influenced the American colonists. In fact it helped Thomas Jefferson as he drafted the Declaration of Independence.

 Men are born and remain free and equal in rights, including liberty, property, security and resistance to oppression was an enlightenment philosophy outlined in the French Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. After the French Revolution feudalism was coming to an end and monarchy was restricted and the citizens and men wanted to have more freedom of equal rights instead of just looking at what social class they are in life. So some enlightenment thinkers started to get together and write the principles of the declaration. This helped the men of all social classes level up in life, meaning before not all can be in politics now they can but it did not really help the women.

In America the people saw the corruption of the state and church and did not like it, so they fought to make sure they did not come together to have all the power to themselves. In France it was almost the same thing but specifically the Catholic Church. The Catholic Church wanted to have more power over France than the power they already have and the French people did not like that and wanted to reorganize the church which made the church very unhappy because the Catholic Church had other motives in their mind. Catholicism was also an issue for Latin America. The Catholic church owned many aspects of the colonial economy. That was one of their ways to control everything. This shows how the separation of the church and state influenced revolutions in America, France, and Latin America all these places wanted to have more freedom while the church or prime religions tried to control everyone and everything in these areas and the people were not having.
