Syntax is the study of sentences and phrases. Syntax works by putting words together in a form people can understand what the person is trying to say. For example, instead of saying "Holds baby the ball The" one would say "The baby holds the ball". Semantics is the extraction of meaning from words and phrases. Semantics work by people draw meaning from words, phrases, and utterances. For example, When one hears the word "flower", we immediately know that a flower is a plant.
