Assignment: When adapting novels for film, filmmakers, including directors and actors, may make choices that slightly or significantly change aspects of a novel in terms of theme, symbolism, character, or even plot. Keeping this in mind, watch Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby from 2013 and write an essay of at least 500 words discussing some of the changes that Luhrmann made, analyzing how the changes impacted theme, symbolism, character and/or plot, and whether or not you see these changes as improving or ruining some aspect of Fitzgerald’s original concept. As always, please provide specific examples in this essay.
