Introduction The enduring issue of inequity or inequality is not a new problem, but has existed since ancient times. Inequity is when a certain group of people is not treated fairly or lack the power and opportunities that other groups have. Human beings seem to have been more equal during the Paleolithic Era or hunting and gathering times, and have been less equal since the Neolithic Revolution, or when agriculture was invented. Haiti as a country is the smaller section of an island, also occupied by the Dominican Republic. Haiti had been taken over by France as a colony in which it could grow sugar, coffee and make rum. It turned into one of the most lucrative (profitable) colonies in the Caribbean. The French brought in hundreds of thousands of slaves to do all of the difficult work of working long hours in the fields and cutting down the cane to make sugar. But eventually, the Affranchis of Haiti and the Noirs demanded human rights and equality. They had heard about the successes of the American Revolution, and the French Revolution and had the courage and determination to demand the same for themselves.
