subject

In our study of sentence elements, we learned that verbs move, as they should given the fact they establish the action of a sentence, but their movement may be transitive or intransitive, depending on their function. Other verbs, such as linking verbs, link subjects to subject complements. Then there are auxiliary verbs which some call "helping verbs" because they assist verbs. Is this sentence's verb transitive, intransitive, linking, auxiliary, or something else?
