What factors led to the creation and development of distinct spanish french english and dutch colonial regions in north america

The French and Dutch settled in Quebec in 1608. Their population grew slowly and they weren't looking to migrate. The French developed direct ties with natives inside, not just along border and they were very active on trade so they needed help from Indians. French also encouraged other Europeans to settle as well.
