What historical circumstances might to account for the different understandings of islam that are reflected in these documents?

Islamic faith emerged as a religion gradually over time; beginning from the 7th century to fully established by the 11th century.  As it develops over a long period of time and it adopts elements from the Qur'anic teachings, the pre-Islamic Arabian tradition, and non-Arabic elements, various Islamic scholars may have different understandings of Islam.
