Timbre in music means the quality of a sound . Pertaining to an instrument's material and its relation to timbre varies. One would be the size of the instrument, i.e. the bigger the instrument, the lower the pitch the instrument can resonate. Additionally, brass has its own characteristic tone where most of the time, it would be bright (sharp, unpleasant) if not controlled and developed. Same goes for wooden, plastic, and percussion instruments. Wooden is traditionally more pleasant and suited for wind ensemble. Plastic is for has less quality in its timbre but is suited for beginners, and percussion instruments is generally the same with wind instruments, but they don't require air, but vibration by striking. Fun fact, a piano is a percussion instrument!
