I think it might be 4 because it is a form that is derived from a verb but that functions as a noun, in English ending in -ing, e.g., asking in do you mind my asking you?..

What i think is that it adds loudness for preachers/church choirs. it is also able to hold up a lot of weight without pillars. : )) idek tho
