Opinion: Do the numerous "musical codes" (e. g., the recurrence of the number 3, the lack of music for the Romans, and the tritone during the rowing scene) contained in Ben Hur add to the artistry of the film? Or, are these musical codes too subtle for the casual listener to grasp? Is this an example of art for artists' sake?
