Artist Ai Weiwei once said, “Creativity is part of human nature. It can only be untaught.” Adults sometimes struggle to be creative, while creativity comes naturally for many young kids. What do you think this means about what schools and society teach? What do you think Ai wants people to do in response to his words?

Children are born motivated by the joy of creating. But as adults they think less about the joy they got from creation and more about grades, money, or favorable feedback from others. If someone tells them that a creative thing they enjoy isn't productive or good, they get discouraged and gradually begin to wonder less.
