For this portion of the lesson, you will start to train your eye to recognize how other artists utilize emphasis in their work. It has been discussed in previous lessons how advertisements can be considered art. You will choose two different advertisements from magazines, newspapers, or the Internet. You will then analyze the ads by asking the following questions for each of the ads you chose. Which advertisement did you choose?
What does it look like?
How does the artist draw your eye to the product?
What elements were used to get you to look there first (color, line, shape, etc.)?
Was the advertisement successful in getting your attention? Explain.
Use these questions as a basis for a comparison between the different advertisements. Use the Comparison worksheet to assist you. Write a summary that compares the different advertisements that you reviewed. Post the summaries to the discussion board.
