Regina keeps confusing sonata and sonata form. How can she BEST distinguish the difference between these two concepts? The sonata form was rarely used during the Classical period.

A sonata is a large-scale composition for a solo instrument.

Sonatas are the only composition written in sonata form.

Any piece that follows an ABAB pattern is a sonata.
