Question 3: It is often suggested that composers in the 20th century resorted to this highly dissonant style of composition because social and political circumstances at the time could only be described in "dissonant" and "chaotic" musical terms (consider WWI, WWII, and Great Depression). Do you think that this was the case, or were composers simply seeking new ways of expressing themselves? (consider that all music from about 1600 (early Baroque) up until the 20th century was based on clear major and minor tonality). Please discuss. (2 pts)
