What is the justification of the progressive taxation method?

The tax which imposes a lower tax rate on the low-income earners while those with higher income are taxed more is known as the Progressive tax system. Hence this taxation is based on the people's ability to pay tax. A larger percentage of tax is taken from high-income earners. People with low incomes are taxed less because it is considered that these people spend most of their income on basic necessities and maintaining standard of living.
