Explain how osmosis different from diffusion

Osmosis is the movement of solvent particles across a semipermeable membrane from a dilute solution into a concentrated solution

Diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of higher concentration to lower concentration.  The big take away effect is to equalize concentration throughout the medium

An example of diffusion would be perfume filling a whole room or a drop of food coloring spreading throughout water uniformly

An example of Osmosis would be red blood cells swelling ip when exposed to fresh water. Plant root hairs uptake water through osmosis as well

Diffusion can occur in any mixture, including which includes a semi-permeable membrane, while osmosis occurs ACROSS a semipermeable membrane
