How would anaerobic conditions (when no o2 is present) affect the rate of electron transport and atp production during oxidative phosphorylation? (note that you should not consider the effect on atp synthesis in glycolysis or the citric acid cycle.)

In anaerobic conditions, both the electron transport chain and ATP synthesis would stop.

Cellular respiration can be divided into three series of reactions:  glycolysis, the Krebs cycle (also known as the citric acid cycle), and the electron transport chain. These last two stages occur in the mitochondria of eukaryotic cells under aerobic conditions.The molecular oxygen (O2) acts as the final acceptor of electrons during the last stage of cellular respiration, i.e., the electron transport chain. Under anaerobic conditions, mitochondria cannot oxidize the reduced forms of the coenzymes Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) and Flavin adenine dinucleotide (FADH2) generated during the first stages of cellular respiration, thereby the cell cannot  synthesize ATP molecules through oxidative phosphorylation.
