Condensation reaction may be defined as the reaction in which two molecules are joined together by the release of small molecules like water, ammonia and ether. The water is removed during the condensation reaction, hence also known as dehydration reaction.

The step wise molecules are added in the condensation reaction to form the product and maintain the equilibrium of the reaction. For example : joining of ethylalochol and ethanoic acid leads to the formation of ester. The OH of carboxylic acid and H of alcohol are removed as water molecule in the reaction.

The addition of glycine and alanine to form the protein. The removal of H ammonia from glycine and OH from the carboxylic acid of alanine. These two molecules are linked together by peptide bond.
