Why might a fractured bone of the axial skeleton be more damaging to overall homeostasis than a fractured bone of the appendicular? axial skeleton protects vital organs, such as brain, heart, spinal cord, etc. the axial skeleton is derived from hyaline cartilage and can puncture or damage other organs upon fractures. the axial skeleton does not heal as quickly and efficiently as the appendicular skeletal system. axial skeleton stores most of the calcium for homeostasis.
