A solar cooker uses UV rays in the sunlight and converts them into infrared light rays, which have the heat energy to make the food heat up (cook the food).  

The working principles include concentrating sunlight (a mirror surface with high reflection is used to concentrate sunlight onto a small cooking area), converting light energy to heat energy (concentrate sunlight onto a receiver like cooking pan, where their interaction converts light into heat by conduction) or trapping heat energy (minimizes convection loss by isolating the air inside the cooker from the outside air by using a glass lid on the cooking pot which provides a greenhouse effect and improves the heat retention.
