When it comes to sex chromosomal disorders they may be difficult to diagnose until puberty.  Many times the diagnoses is just as simple as "if you have a Y Chromosome you are male, if you have X you are female."  Human females have XX Chromosomes while Human Males are XY.  So if a Y is present, you are genetically male.  However sometimes the Y chromosome can be damaged and the individual comes out female because the X gene took over.
