The total amount will be the same in a process because the amount of potential energy or kinetic energy can only transfer to what is already being used. Example, say the total energy will be on a pie chart, let's say 1/4 of the graph is potential and 3/4 is kinetic. No matter what, the pie graph will be 4/4.
