It was clear from the start of the day that Hypothalamus and Pituitary Gland were up in arms. Apparently some important hormones have simply decided to take an indefinite leave of absence, without Notice! "Homeostasis is just not possible without them," complained Hypothalamus. Clearly exasperated Pituitary Gland replied "I just don't have anyone else available to fill these two positions." "Who are they talking about?" whispered Growth Hormone. "I don't know," answered Oxytocin "I do," stated ADH emphatically. "It's FSH and LH. They're angry and frustrated with the constant confusion on the job. First they are told to do one job and then they are told to stop it. You know, kind of like most of the rest of us," he said disgustedly as he eyed Oxytocin. "So they left." Growth Hormone and Oxytocin are left with shocked looks on their faces. "Ovary and Uterus are going to be so angry," exclaimed Oxytocin. 1) What does ADH mean by "most of the rest of us? Who is included in this statement and why?

2) Who is excluded from this statement? Explain why.

3) What consequences will Ovary and Uterus face as a result of the absence of FSH and LH? (Be sure to describe the consequences for the entire ovarian and uterine cycles in detail. Response should include the following terms, ovulation, corpus luteum, estrogen, progesterone, secretory phase, proliferative phase, mensus, follicle, luteal phase, follicular phase, uterine lining.)

Read the following scenario to answer the following question. in some zoos, rare crosses between a male lion and a female tiger have produced hybrid offspring called "ligers." male ligers are sterile but some female ligers are fertile. in the wild, lion and tiger ranges do not naturally overlap, making such a cross unlikely. furthermore, the solitary behavior of tigers and the social organizations of lions create behavioral differences. applying the biological species concept, the sterility of ligers reveals that a. lions are probably a subspecies of tigers b. tigers and lions are the same species c. a new species called "ligers" is forming d. tigers and lions are separate species
