Describe biotic and abiotic features of earth’s six major biomes

Tundra

-permanently frozen

-plant life includes mosses, grasses, small flowers, and shrubs

-animal life includes birds, wolves, foxes and reindeer

Coniferous (Evergreen)

-cold climate

-enough rainfall for trees to grow

-animals include moose, squirrel, rabbits, and beavers

Deciduous

-moderate climate

-long growing season followed by a cold winter

-leaves of trees, such as oak and maple will fall off

-many kinds of birds and animals

Tropical Rain forest

-large amount of rainfall and hot all year

-tall trees and many kinds of plants

-many different animals

Grasslands

-moderate climate but not enough rain for trees to grow

-large herds of animals feed on the many kinds of grasses

Deserts

-temperatures are moderate or hot, but where there is very little rain

-very few plants

-lizards and coyotes find food and shelter

organisms that lack symmetry are called asymmetrical and belong to phylum porifera/sponges.

organisms with specialized stinging cells belong to phylum cnidaria. stinging cells are called cnidoblast cells.

cnidarians show two morphological forms : polyp (sessile) and medusa (mobile)

filter feeding is observed in porifera members.  

alternation of generation is observed in coelenterata or cnidaria. there is alternation of asexual polyp form and sexual medusoid form. it is also referred as metagenesis.
