HOCKEY CARDS Five avid card collectors attended last Saturday's annual Sports Collectibles Convention
in Pasadena. Each rushed immediately to the hockey-card tables, where they pored over
hundreds of rare and collectible cards available for purchase. By the end of the day, each
collector had purchased a single rare hockey card-each sold for a different price and
featured a different hockey player from a different season. Later that day, the cards were
stolen. You're reconstructing the day. Using the clues below, determine which player's
card each collector purchased, as well as the year and price of each card.
1. The Herbie Hillstrand card cost $58.
2. Between Keaton and Eddie, one bought the Hank Harris card and the other
bought a card that was originally printed in 1994.
3. Abe didn't buy the 1986 card.
4. The Chucky Colburn card (which wasn't the most expensive of the 5 cards) was
not printed in 1989.
5. Reid's card cost him $9 more than what Jesse paid for his card.
6. The 1993 card (which didn't feature Hank Harris) didn't cost $67.
7. Keaton's card came out sometime before 1993.
8. The 1989 card cost $9 less than Reid's card. N
9. Between the card Keaton purchased and the Herbie Hillstrand card, one was
the cheapest of the 5 cards and the other was printed in 1986.
10. The $49 card featured either Hubert Hansen or Chucky Colburn
11. Between Reid and the person who bought the Harris card, one bought the
Hillstrand card and the other paid $40.

Over the past 60 years, many amphibian species have experienced significant population declines and some species have become extinct. scientists suspected that local human activities such as the destruction of wetlands, regional pollution, and deforestation were the main reasons for these losses. however, research over the past 20 years reveals significant amphibian population declines in protected areas of the world, such as nature preserves and parks. these global declines suggest widespread problems including increased ultraviolet radiation, acid rain, and disease. in switzerland, for example, 14 of the 20 native amphibian species are threatened with extinction. chytridiomycosis is a fungal disease first identified in 1998 as a cause of massive amphibian deaths. in some severely impacted populations, a few individuals have survived, perhaps because of some natural resistance. if these resistant individuals continue to survive and prosper, new resistant populations might emerge. this would be an example of the founder effect artificial selection genetic drift natural selection sexual selection
