HELPPP -A chemist is studying dissolved gases in the ocean. She graphs her data as shown below. Image of graph. x-axis is labeled Concentration of dissolved gas in milliliters per liter (ml/l) and there are two scales on the x-axis. The scale labeled O2 starts at 44 and increases by 2 until it reaches 52. The scale labeled CO2 starts at 1 and increase by 1 until it reaches 6. The y-axis has two labels and two scales. The label on the left y-axis is Depth (m). The scale for Depth (m) starts at the top of the graph at 0 and increases by 100 until it reaches 4000. The label on the right y-axis is Depth (ft). The scale of Depth (ft) starts at the top of the graph at 0 and increases by 4000 until it reaches 12,000. Two lines appear on the graph. The red line, representing CO2, starts at left hand side of the graph around 44 ml/l on the x-axis and 0 meters and 0 feet on the y-axis. The red line starts to shift to the right at about 500 m and 2000 ft. It continues to shift to the right as depth increases until it is constant at about 51 ml/l. The blue line, representing O2, starts at the right hand side of the graph around 6 ml/l on the x-axis and 0 meters and 0 feet on the y-axis. The blue line starts to shift to the left at about 300 m and 1000 ft. The blue line is nearly constant on the y-axis but shifts to the left on the x-axis from 5 ml/l to about 2 ml/l where it intersects with the red line at about 600 m and 2000 ft. The blue line then stays constant at 2 ml/l as depth increases from 600 m and 2000 ft to 3000 meters to 10,000 ft. It then shifts back to the right just past the 2 ml/l mark on the x-axis and stays constant as depth increases to almost 4000 m and 12,000 ft. © 2015 science. kennesaw. edu Based on the data, what would likely be the abundance of organisms that perform aerobic cellular respiration at a depth of 1,000 meters compared to near the surface? What adaptation would most benefit these organisms, based on the data provided?
