On high power, this cyanobacteria appears as blue-green or pink spheres, arranged in chains that may be twisted or coiled.

On high power, this single-celled organism appears as a light-green cylinder rounded at one end and tapered at the other. A thin whip-like structure allows it to move but is often not visible.
