What does trees have to do with the food chain

Trees are a type of producer. The trees get there energy from the sun. A caterpillar or some other type of primary consumer will eat a part of the tree such as leaves seeds or even parts of the wood. The primary consumer then gets eaten by a secondary consumer and so on.
