Help please Introduction

Earth systems interact in various ways, and some of these interactions influence human behavior. For example, the ocean and the atmosphere interact to form hurricanes. Humans may respond by tracking the storm and, for the strongest hurricanes, evacuating an area to move people out of harm’s way. This is just one example of how people respond to atmospheric, oceanic, or hydrologic conditions.

Task

Your task is to explain how various atmospheric, oceanic, and hydrologic conditions in Florida influence human behavior, both individually and collectively. You will identify and research a natural event, such as a flood, drought, wildfire, severe thunderstorm, hurricane, rip current, or tsunami. You will describe the conditions that bring about the event, and discuss human responses. Responses might range from storm preparedness to conservation measures. You’ll describe human responses to the event, and include recommendations to reduce negative impacts.

Process: Use your resources to answer the following questions.

1. Which atmospheric, oceanic, or hydrologic conditions will you research?

2. What natural event is caused by these conditions? Focus on one event. Describe each step in its formation.

3. How do people in Florida, both as individuals and in groups, respond to the event?

4. Does your event occur regularly or sporadically? What effect does this pattern have on human behavior?

5. Do scientific studies or models predict that the frequency or intensity of your event will increase or decrease in the future? What can we do to reduce the negative impacts of the event?
