Compare and contrast Meiosis and Mitosis, how are they similar and how are they different?

Cells divide and reproduce in two ways, mitosis and meiosis. Mitosis results in two identical daughter cells, whereas meiosis results in four sex cells.

1. meiosis require two nuclear division but mitosis requires only one nuclear division  

2. meiosis produces four daughter divisions, and there are four daughters cell following cytokinesis. Mitosis followed by cytokinesis result in two daughter cells  

3. in meiosis, the four daughter cells are haploid and have half the chromosome number as the parent cell. In mitosis, the daughter cell have the same chromosome number as the parent cell  

4. in meiosis the daughter are genetically dissimilar to each other and to parent but in mitosis, the daughter cells are genetically identical to each other and to the parent.
