The plate tectonic movement plays a significant role in the drifting of the continents from one place to another. The magma produces the convection current in the mantle, that initiates the plate motion. These plates are comprised of two types, namely the continental as well as the oceanic plate (crust).

These plates can carry the continents and ocean bodies. Due to this continuous tectonic activity, the plates on the earth's surface are in constant motion with respect to a fixed point.

Thus, when the plates move the continents moves along with them.
