A researcher inserted the human gene for the protein hemoglobin into a plasmid. The plasmid was taken up by a bacterial cell through the process of transformation. The bacterial cell utilized the gene to produce a protein. However, the protein did not have the same amino acid sequence as hemoglobin has in a human cell. In fact, the protein in the bacterial cell was much longer than in the human cell. How can you explain this?
