Climate change may be the reason why Easter Island collapsed because the only items left are the statues. It must be why they are still there today. The island, however has lost it's natural appeal due to everything else. Scientists can tell the global affect that the climate has unless it doesn't affect whatever the chemical in the statue is made of.
