In the water cycle, both evaporation and convection work to lift liquid water from the earth's surface into the atmosphere where they condense into water vapor and eventually fall as rain.

In the water cycle, when the heat from the sun heats up the earth's and water surfaces, the water molecules absorb heat and turn to water vapor by the process of evaporation. The water vapor rises into the atmosphere.

During convection in the water cycle, heated air near the earth's surface rises as it becomes less dense than cold air and carries along water vapor with it into the atmosphere. As the hot air water vapor mixture rises, it becomes cold and condenses into water vapor which later falls as rain.
