the theory of continental drift was proposed by geologist alfred wegener in 1912. wegener proposed that the continents were a part of single large landmass, which he called as pangaea. this large landmass was broken into many small subcontinents. but wegener did not suggested the cause of continents to break apart. wegener gave the evidence of climatic change on the continents for supporting the theory of natural selection. he gave the example of part of greenland the continent   with warmer climatic condition which was situated near the equator was slowly moved to the artic circle with colder climatic conditions.this region exhibit fossils of plants and animals once were surviving in tropical grasslands. therefore, fossils found in these different continent became same.
