What happans to DNA inside the necleus before meiosis begins?

The cell has already made new copies of each one of its chromosomes before mitosis starts. The initial chromosome, however, remains connected to these new copies. The replicated chromosomes must be able to be taken away from the original copies by a dividing cell, which is how the DNA is split equally as one cell divides into two.
