They provide mechanical support to organs of the plant body

Hence they are important for plants

Sclerenchyma tissues are tissues that makes up parts of the plants that are hard. Like the nuts and covering seeds etc, These tissues have a hard thickness providing agent called lignin and lignin makes the cell wall too hard the sometimes the cell contains nothing. This cell mainly provides mechanical support to the plant
