Next in lab you're going to examine traits that are on the same chromosome, but are NOT X-linked. Before you start, you'll make predictions on what you
expect to see.
Let's use Mendel's notation to make this easier. The traits black body color (g)
and vestigial wings are recessive to the wild type body color (gray-G) and
normal wings (N).
Cross a true-breeding female fly with wild type body color (gray) and vestigial
wings (genotype: GGnn) with a true-breeding male fly with a black body and
normal wings (g9NN). Now perform a testcross (ggnn) with the Ffly (GgNn).
In the next generation, the Parental phenotypes are:
• black body and normal wings
• gray body and vestigial wings
The recombinant phenotypes result when the F2 offspring have a new
combination of traits. The recombinant phenotypes are:
• gray body and normal wings and
• black body and vestigial wings
What will the results of your testcross with the Fı generation look like if the
body color and wing size traits are on different chromosomes and sort
independently?
Select one:
a. 100% will have the parental phenotypes
b. 9/16 (56%) will have gray body color and normal wings
c. 50% will have gray bodies and normal wings
O d. 100% will have the recombinant phenotypes
e. 50% will have the parental phenotypes, 50% will have the
recombinant phenotypes
