Can you change the type of element of an atom

All elements have atoms with neutrons except for one.A hydrogen.

If you add more things to one element from the periodic table it will no longer be what it's original state was. For example, (this is not accurate) iron, the atomic number is 10, if you add like 23, you will get a completely different element. Say silver is 56, you add copper (20), it will no longer be silver.
