Explain why people with poorly controlled diabetes are at risk for amputation.

People with diabetes are at a higher risk of amputation than any other person with a chronic disease. A person with this disease is 15 times more likely to have an amputation than others. It is usually a lower limb on the body that risks amputation. Many people will lose a foot or even both feet,due to the disease. This happens because of nerve damage and poor circulation over having high blood sugar for prolonged periods of time. It is important for people with the disease to visit their doctor on a regular basis.
