Stem cell research is another ethical issue. Stem cells are cells from an early embryo that can become any type of cell, such as heart, lung, liver or skin. The reason people are researching these cells is because you can actually grow new tissues and organs to replace the damaged ones. For example, it may be possible to grow a new set of lungs for someone who is dying of lung cancer. The ethical issue with this type of research is that, to obtain this type of stem cells, it is necessary to destroy an embryo so that it never becomes a person. Do you think this research should be done? Why or why not?
