1. Compare the size of the male and female cones. 2. Look for the pollen sacs in the male cone (Two pollen sacs are located under each scale of the male cone.)
3. Look for the ovaries in the female cone. (Two parts containing the egg cells can be found on the upper side of the
female cone.)
4. Check the hardness of each cone.
5. Find the sticky parts.
6. Try to determine whether the female cone has been fertilized.
7. Record your observations.
