Background
Everything that our bodies do requires multiple organ systems; many seemingly simple tasks involve almost every single organ system in the body.
Analyzing how the body’s organ systems work together to perform these tasks can deepen our understanding of how each organ system functions, and how they work together.
The Assignment
Each student will choose 1-3 activities that they perform regularly and explain the role(s) that each organ system plays in each activity, as well as explain how organ systems work together to perform the chosen activities.
Examples of activities students might choose:
• Arts (drawing/painting, dance or music performance, acting)
• Athletics (exercises/workout routines, sports)
• Food/Culinary-related (cooking, eating different cuisines)
• Other hobbies (video games/TV)
• Other student choices?
Connections with your chosen activities may be:
• Direct – How are your chosen activities directly controlled/performed by different organ systems and processes in the body?
• Analogies – How are your chosen activities similar/analogous to different organ systems and processes in the body?
