Describe how the mammalian heart is adapted to it's function

The ventricles are thick walled; to pump blood to the lungs and the rest of the body. The left ventricle has thicker wall to create more pressure because it pumps blood for longer distances round the body; while the right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs close to the heart.
