Large teeth are used to the advantage of the beaver to make their shelter and chew through wood in order to make said shelter, so a beaver with larger teeth is more likely to have a better shelter, and therefore survive longer, reproduce more and help tip the population to have larger teeth. The opposite, however, will happen with beavers with smaller teeth. This leads to evolution.
