SOMENE PLZZ HELP ME The synthesis that takes place in plants to produce glucose is complex. There are two main phases: the light-dependent reactions and the light-independent reactions. The light-dependent reactions—as the name suggests—require sunlight. In these reactions, chlorophyll absorbs sunlight, which is converted into energy-rich molecules like ATP. In the light-independent reactions, those energy-rich molecules are used to assemble glucose from carbon dioxide and other compounds. The light-dependent reactions fuel the light-independent reactions. Sometimes, these are called the light and dark reactions, but this is misleading because plants will stop performing photosynthesis if left in darkness. They need the light to get those light-dependent reactions—the first step of photosynthesis—started.

Which detail from the passage was included to explain why the name "dark reactions" is misleading?

A

"The light-dependent reactions—as the name suggests—require sunlight."

B

"...those energy-rich molecules are used to assemble glucose..."

C

"...plants will stop performing photosynthesis if left in darkness."

D

"The synthesis that takes place in plants to produce glucose is complex."
