An ecosystem transition from primary succession to secondary succession is when it starting off without any soil.

The succession is the process when any communities of plants and animals are temporary. It exists for some period of time and then are gradually replaced by other species that will, in turn, be replaced by still others.

Primary succession is the condition where there isn't any soil when a new community begins. It is type of ecological succession (is the evolution of a biological community’s ecological structure) in which plants and animals first colonize a barren, lifeless habitat. Wheres secondary succession is when an event such as a fire destroys an area but leaves the soil.

Primary succession would do transition to secondary succession by starting off without any soil. Overtime the community would begin to grow and then soil would appear and plants would start to grow.

Secondary succession is a condition when an event destroys that area leaving just the soil behind. It is also the succession that occurs on a surface where an ecosystem has perviously existed , for example mt. st. helens. It occurs if the ecosystem was previously disturbed by an event, such as a fire or a natural disaster. Also it usually occurs on pre-existing soil, making it faster than primary succession.
